Mayors Against Illegal Guns

Dear The McGlynn,

After the recent mass
shootings in Colorado and Wisconsin, it’s reasonable to ask: Is your state
doing everything it can to keep guns out of the hands of people with severe
mental illness?

According to new data from the FBI, for too many
states, the answer is clearly: “No.”

States have failed to submit
millions of their mental health records into the national do-not-sell gun
database — and every missing record is a tragedy waiting to
happen.

What’s worse is that leaders at both the state and national level
have not told us how they plan to close these fatal gaps.

Check out our new interactive map to see if your state is
at risk — then send a message to your governor and the presidential candidates
to Demand A Plan to end gun violence.

IS YOUR STATE DOING EVERYTHING IT CAN TO STOP DANGEROUS PEOPLE FROM BUYING GUNS?

Any time someone tries to buy a gun from a
licensed dealer, they have to undergo a background check. But most states have
failed to report so many mental health records to the database that these checks
are alarmingly incomplete.

Why is this important? It was these very gaps
that allowed a young man who’d been declared mentally ill by a court to pass a
background check, buy guns and take 32 lives at Virginia Tech.

Please check out our new interactive map and send a message to
Demand A Plan today.

Thanks for speaking up,
Mayors Against Illegal Guns
