  1. Drop the charge of “aiding the enemy” against Pfc. Bradley Manning.
  2. Ensure that Manning receives humane treatment, rather than relying on qualified assurances from the Pentagon.
  3. Investigate the war crimes revealed in the WikiLeaks documents.

Pfc. Bradley Manning, the alleged whistleblower of the WikiLeaks documents, has been charged with “wrongfully obtaining classified material for the purpose of posting it on the Internet, knowing that the information would be accessed by the enemy; the illegal transmission of defense information; fraud; and aiding the enemy.”

Manning should be considered a hero for his bravery in allegedly leaking classified documents to WikiLeaks that reveal American war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. The WikiLeaks documents, including the “Collateral Murder” video, provide transparency that has long been needed about the cost of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and an inside view of machinations within our government.

The WikiLeaks documents opened the floodgates to events previously undreamed of, not the least of which is the cascade of democratic uprisings in the Arab world, which should be viewed as unmitigatedly positive, not only for the people who are rising up, but also for democracies around the world, including the United States.

Daniel Ellsberg said recently, “I’m very impressed that Bradley Manning [said] that he was prepared, he was ready to go to prison for life or even be executed … in order to share this information with the American people who needed to have it.”

Manning has been subjected to what the CIA defines as “no-touch” torture.

When asked about Manning’s incarceration and treatment, President Obama replied, “I have actually asked the Pentagon whether or not the procedures that have been taken in terms of [Manning’s] confinement are appropriate and are meeting our basic standards. They assured me that they are.” The evidence shows otherwise.

Please take action for Pfc. Bradley Manning, the American people, and democracy itself by sending the email below to President Obama asking him to drop the capital charge of “aiding the enemy,” ensure Manning’s humane treatment, and investigate war crimes. Please edit the text as you like.
