Thomas Paine's version of "you didn't build that":
"Separate an individual from society, and give him an island or a continent to possess, and he cannot acquire personal property. He cannot be rich. So inseparably are the means connected with the end,in all cases, that where the former do not exist the latter cannot be obtained. All accumulation, therefore,of personal property, beyond what a man's own hands produce, is derived to him by living in society; and he owes on every principle of justice,of gratitude, and of civilization,a part of that accumulation back again to society from whence the whole came"

After eleven years of U.S. warfare in Afghanistan, the twisted ethos of perpetual war goes virtually unchallenged among the 100 members of the U.S. Senate.
With undue presidential power for making war, the deference is deafening — and deadly. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
No one in today’s Senate comes close to the record of Senator Wayne Morse, who was willing to directly challenge the president of his own party as the war in Vietnam gathered momentum.

Last night in one of the strangest Presidential debates ever, Barack Obama said, Medicare is what is causing the deficit. I almost threw something at the tv. It isn’t Medicare that is causing the deficit, it is the war machine, the pentagon, the state department, the military budget. Do you want to start rebuilding this country, do you want to take care of our elderly, our sick, our disabled?
