Feeding America

Dear The McGlynn,Think children in your community have enough to eat? Think again. Hunger exists in every county in the US. Even in Santa Barbara County, CA, one of our wealthiest counties; nearly 1 in 4 kids face hunger.The McGlynn, how many children struggle with hunger in your community? Find out today by exploring our interactive map “Map the Meal Gap: Child Food  Insecurity”.Child hunger may be widespread, but the better we understand it the better we can respond. That’s why Feeding America is proud to release the second iteration of a groundbreaking study that paints a clear picture of child hunger in every country and congressional district in the nation, including Plymouth.With over 16 million children facing hunger nationwide, knowing where the need is greatest and why helps us work more effectively and efficiently to deliver help — whether it’s signing more families up for federal assistance or redirecting food aid to specific member food banks.Among the report’s thought-provoking findings:

  • Child food insecurity is more pervasive in rural counties;
  • Zavala County, Texas has the highest rate of child food insecurity with nearly half the children there suffering from hunger; and,
  • Of the 10,000 food insecure children in Loudoun County, Virginia, nearly 80% are not eligible for federal nutrition programs like SNAP.

Check out our interactive map, and download a snapshot of child food insecurity in your county today.

Thank you, as always, for helping us work on every front to reach the children and families who urgently need our help.
